I suspect it's the opposite of the power in the locked room -- so 
my guess would be an embodiment or projection of hate, made 
concrete, and perhaps also mindful, by magic. My guess is 
Salazar always distrusted but  didn't originally *hate* 
non-purebloods. However,  in his quest for power  he created or 
summoned this thing and it filled him with its hatred, or tried to.
