How can anything be semi-alive? Hmmm. A virus. At least that's a 
nice Muggle World analogy. Voldemort has been remarkably parasitic 
ever since his great defeat: inhabiting animals and Quirrel, 
swilling unicorn blood and snake venom, regenerating in bits and 
pieces of servant, father and enemy. You may have a point.
