Somewhere in Lupin's explanation in the Shrieking Shack scene (sorry -
books are in boxes) he clearly says that werewolves are dangerous to
humans, not other animals and thus would not infect wizards if they
were bitten in their animagus forms. What has always puzzled me
about the scene you describe above is that, IIRC, it is stated that
Padfoot has been bitten. Yet, when Sirius is back in human form, no
evidence is given that the injuries come back with him. I guess this
is just one of those things that can only be explained by
saying "It's magic."
