I love this discussion. Just a brief comment, Jen. I think that it is 
possible that in his pursuit of immortality Voldemort wanted to 
extinguish some human feelings, not all of them. I can easily imagine 
that he wanted to get rid of feeling pain, but got more than he 
bargained for. I don't know - maybe he lost the ability to feel 
anything positive in process.
