Sirius' Death

Hello everyone! I was wondering something. When Sirius died at the  
department of mysteries, his human self had been gone and apparently 
lost  forever. Do you think that it is possible that the human part 
of you can die and the animagus part live? I Know that it sounds a 
little farfetched but after all Peter Pettigrew had lived on after 
his incident and nobody knew about it for years later.
