The problem is with how JKR is using the words, not with what is 
accepted use elsewhere.  For example:

"Harry - yer a wizard."  - Hagrid, PS.
"Harry - you're a great wizard, you know." - Hermione, PS.
"And he [Harry] also happened to be a wizard." - PoA (page 1).
