That's an unusual take on corned beef.

To most Brits, corned beef is chopped beef presrved in brine (that's 
the "corned" bit) and pressed into tins.

Those of us (just) old enough to remember Second World War and early 
post-war food, it was part of out staple diet, which is why I can't 
stand the stuff nowadays!
