That reminds me of the phrase "The best laid plans of mice and men oft
go awry."
No matter how well-thought out Hermione's plans are, she is still
human and fallible, and as a writer, JKR has to realize that she must
make Hermione seem that way before risking Hermione's character seem
flat and too god-like. As it is, Hermione's character already bears
certain resemblances to a deus ex machina character, miraculously
coming up with answers from seemingly nowhere.
