Moon orb? (was Remus, Sibyl and a lot of other stuff)

I started re-reading PS/SS last night, and I noticed something: when Harry 
arrives in Diagon Alley for the first time and is looking at the things for 
sale in the shops, one of the things he sees is "moon orbs."  No details, 
just the name.  Maybe a moon orb is the same as a crystal ball, or maybe 
it's astronomical equipment, or maybe it's just something JKR put in for 
atmosphere.  Or maybe not.
