Carol:
I think that not being able to apparate another person is part of the
answer (apparation--or apparition?--is IMO a form of
self-transportaion only), but much more important is the fact that she
could save Harry from Voldemort only through self-sacrifice. That's
why she kept screaming, "Not Harry! Kill me instead!"
