That may be...  DD says that he turned spy at "great personal risk".  If Voldemort is victorious, Snape will of course be killed.  Maybe he's like Pettigrew, but he realized DD was the most powerful.

I think, though, that this may simplify things.  There is obviously some big reason DD trusts him.  I guess this could play out to be a case of misplaced trust, but I hope not.  I do hope, though, that we find out in book 6 the reason.  I don't want to wait another year or two.
