The Sergeant Majorette says
Harry's a boy and Hermione's a girl. Hermione is also a teacher's pet 
and a class brain. Anytime she learns anything new she's going to 
work it to death before she adds it to her repertory. Harry, like Ron 
or any other regular boy, remembers things as longs as he needs to in 
order to pass the exam. Then he forgets about it until some crisis 
brings it to the front of his mind.
