Why not floo instead of thestral to London?

Actually, I'm more annoyed that Harry never looked at what Sirius 
gave him after Christmas.  If JKR had had him do so, there never 
would have been a need to go into Umbridge's office, either time.  
He just could have talked to Sirius through the mirrors, Kreacher 
never could have tricked him, and Sirius would probably still be 
alive.  It's always seemed to me to be a strange plot-hole 
oversight.  Anyway, it drove me up a wall when Harry discovered what 
his gift was at the end.  >_<  Oh well, what's done is done I 
suppose, but there is one example of Hermione's worrying and nagging 
(over whether or not Harry should communicate with Sirius while at 
Grimmauld Place) NOT being a good thing (I mean, seriously, what 
would you do if there was even the possibility that someone you 
loved was being tortured and about to be killed?  I would probably 
do exactly what Harry did - freak out and overreact out of concern).
