One other thing. Snape is certain that he's caught Ron and Harry in an
expel-worthy offense. He deposits them in his office and hurries off to get
those who "do have that happy power," Dumbledore and McGonagall.
I think his mind was on *that,* and he was hurrying. He spent only enough
time talking to the boys to let them know the seriousness of what they had
done. There was no toying. Seeing to the comfort of the boys would have been
low on his list on *any* occasion; on this particular one, I don't think it
even registered.
