Isn't Head Boy an academic honor, based primarily on marks (grades)?
That's why James was made Head boy even though he wasn't a prefect.
(I'm betting on Ernie McMillan as Head Boy, which will free both Ron
and Harry to concentrate on fighting Voldemort in Book 7--though if
they want to be aurors, they'll also have to work on their NEWTs.)
