Marauders and Snape as roommates

Didn't Remus say somewhere that Snape was always sneaking after 
them, trying to figure out where they were going, leading to Sirius 
instructing Snape to follow Remus down the tunnel to the Shrieking 
Shack? 

Someone on here said that it would be difficult for students of 
different houses to determine if people were missing for any length 
of time. But, if Snape was their roommate, he'd surely notice, and 
become curious, right?
