think it was suggested that Crookshanks might be part Kneazle.

Actually, JKR confirmed that Crookshanks is Half-Kneazle in April 27, 2001 Newsround interview.

Took me a sec to find the interview, as it's not in Quick Quotes, surprisingly! It's in the group's own interview files. (Seems it wouldn't be in Quick Quotes, as I got multiple reports from different respectable sites like the Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet when I tried a google search on it. Ah well.)
