Argh, Meri, how shall I put it without hurting you ;-) ?
OK, let's agree to disagree then. I'm personally convinced that Harry
meant the curse, he meant to hurt Bella, he was even looking forward
to it, he was waiting for her to fall and scream in pain. And I think
the only reason he failed is that he simply didn't know how to do it.
Just like you have to focus on your happy memories to make the
Patronus Charm work, you have to focus on your anger and desire to
hurt to make the Cruciatus curse work. And Harry doesn't know how to
do it. Yet.
