Maybe, being an occlumens like Snape, he just conceals his surprise.
At any rate, he didn't know that Peter Pettigrew was alive. He
thought, along with everyone else, that Sirius Black was a murderer.
Had he known, he could have sent the dementors packing and saved Harry
from a nasty fifty-foot fall.
