The question has been answered. I'm putting it here, with spoiler 
space, but her writing is much more clever than mine, so I recommend 
reading it there...

There is no significance to Mark Evans, but she thinks that the fans 
were creating such ingenious theories that she didn't want to spoil 
the fun and is now planning on taking her family into hiding in 
Bolivia.  


Any Bolivian listies willing to track her down? 




Heidi, who has (a) come out of lurkdom and the busyiness of running 
fictionalley.org and assembling the Nimbus - 2003 proceedings (going 
to be published this month!) to post this info  and, (b) who notes 
that JKR's comment about Bolivia, and mine as well, are jokes.

Thanks for posting this.  I can't access the regular part of the site--just
the text only--so if it's not there, I wouldn't have been able to find this
information.  I hope it's for real, because it would be so funny, that we've
all been speculating like mad about Mark Evans, and he doesn't matter.  Just
one of JKR's tricks.  I love her way of doing that.
