Sirius was imprisoned with Dementors who suck out the happiness and leave you 
with your worst memories. Even Hagrid tells of the torment that he went 
through. In that environment how can anyone mature. Sirius went in when he was in 
his twenties, still immature. Snape OTOH, was a DE, then he switched and has 
been teaching at Hogwarts. Snape has more of an opportunity to grow up than 
Sirius had, without Dementors and with Dumbledore's help.
