Must the prince be human?

I'm sorry, I haven't really been keeping up with the list these days, so if
someone else has said this I apologize.

Does the half-blood prince have to be a human? We know giants can interbreed
with humans, other species may be able to. Or it could be someone who is a
half-blood mix of two nonhuman species. So much of the theme has been
involvement and trust of other kinds; wouldn't a prince of another species
tie in nicely?
