Mike:
I'm convinced that the secret in CoS has to do with the past history
of Gryffindor and Slytherin, but at first I figured it would be more
of a "Harry is related to Gryffindor as Tom Riddle is related to
Syltherin" sort of thing.
However after reading your post it seems quite plausible that
Slytherin may have been half-blooded and takes his pureblood
fanaticism from hatred of Muggles and abuse he has taken from them.
I can just imagine the shock it would be to all the Slytherins right
now if they found out that their houses' founder wasn't the
pureblood loyalist they think he is, rather another 'mere' half
blood. This is a reason in my mind why some Slytherins may join
together with the rest of the houses (Sorting Hat's song about House
unity to defeat LV). For more info on that you can check
the "Slytherins join Hogwarts" topics around here that are still
being debated in :)
Good post and idea, will be added to my list of possible people of
who the HBP could be.
