I have always thought of his name more in line with
              'He fudged the answer'
meaning, 'he didn't know it so he made up something that seemed convincing'
(Much as Ron did for the Goblin wars)
- the meaning can also shade towards being deliberately misleading, but it
is definitely a shady, not-quite-honest sort of word.
