DE in the DoM

Replying to my own stupidity here.  Initially I had ruled out Rabastan Lestrange because Harry, Hermione and Neville would all have been able to recognize him from the photos in the Daily Prophet and the posters in the shops in Hogsmeade.  None of the three seemed to recognize him when his head was going up and down in the bell jar.  So I concluded that it had to be Crabbe (whom I ruled out for other reasons) or Avery..who is who I think it was...not that it makes one bit of difference at the moment.
