I've got "cousins" who aren't really related to me at all - they are
the children of my uncle's brother-in-law - my real cousins' cousins
on the other side of their family.  We meet fairly often at family
gatherings and I used to inherit their cast-off clothes.  Maybe Sirius
and Molly are related like that.

e.g. Sirius had an aunt who married a Prewett (Molly's maiden name). 
Said Prewett had a brother who was Molly's father.
