On James in Snapes memory:
For me this episode in the book was always the `typical'
deconstruction for/by Harry of the hero image of his father.
A very important way to `grow up' and find his own way in life and
look into his own strengths.
And also a tiny step towards reconciling Snape and Harry, although
that never took place really, very unfortunate IMO.

In OoP Sirius wanted Harry so much to be like James but that
ultimately needed to fail. And especially in PoA James is painted so
much as Harry's ultimate hero, with no flaws, just a `perfect' memory.

Which then brings me to Lily, as the pure, perfect, angel-like? I do
see her like this at the moment too, but isn't that just a `perfect'
memory too?
