Yes! And I think in his own inimitable way he is. He is a former (we 
hope!) DE. He played with the really big bad boys and then turned 
his back on them. He knows the heart of a Slytherin better than they 
know themselves and he has their respect. As long as they respect 
him they will notice that it is Dumbledore he defers to and not 
Voldemort. And as long as that message is loud and clear I think 
Snape is playing his part in the fight against Evil (despite being a 
rather nasty, bitter, twisted man).
