You are quite right. It was late and I should have checked my facts. 

No, it doesn't alter my theory because the name of the person who got
decapitated isn't relevant; it's the fact that he sacrificed himself for the
happiness of others, and that's what impresses Jo!

Hans, you must have been reading a different version of Dickens' 
novel to me.  The chap who is guillotined at the end of the book is 
Sidney Carton, not Charles Darnay.  Sidney sacrifices himself to save 
another man, thereby redeeming what has been a largely wasted life.
I don't know if this alters your theory at all.
