Hello HP fans! My name is Lillian. I joined the group a few days ago.
Before I give you my thoughts on this subject, let me just say how
happy I am to have found this group. I have been a member of other HP
groups but they had mostly younger people in them and so they were
unorganized and very frustrating because they often went off topic.
This group is so informative. I love it! Anyway, on to my thought.
Maybe Tom got in touch with his father's family and arranged to come
and see them that night. I am not sure how much his father knew about
the WW, if he knew anything at all about it. He probably didn't know
anything about the "genetics" of wizardry (how to know if his child
would be a muggle or a wizard). So Tom could have called or written to
the family and told them he was interested in getting to know them. If
they thought he was a "normal" person they might have been interested
in meeting him because they would have wanted an heir. Tom goes there
that night to meet the family that shunned him and then he kills them.

One other thing... Was this the kind of household that had servants
that lived in a servant's quarters in another part of the house or did
they have servants that lived in the village and came to the house
every day to work? If the servants lived in the village then Tom would
have had a lot of time to torture the family and he wouldn't worry
about being discovered. I don't know. I have been reading so many HP
ideas for the last few days that my head is spinning. I look forward
to hearing thoughts on this.

Lillian
