Just want to interject here that there seems to be a general 
assumption of Dumbledore's infallibility that I'd like to question.  
There's a pretty clear canonical record of his miscalculations with 
regard to Harry that DD himself enumerates near the end of OotP.  
He's reminiscent of Gandalf and Merlin that way, actually...  
Thoughts?
