Well, I don't think it's too much of a stretch.  IMHO, the monthly 
effects of PMS is the inspiration behind the werewolf stories.  The 
men who told the stories knew that if they made the character a 
woman who became a deadly beast on a monthly basis, they wouldn't 
survive to tell the story twice.
