Actually, I think JKR has already refused to answer the question of 
whether Snape was in love with Lily - something that poured gasoline 
on the flames of all those people theorizing this (it does look a bit 
suspicious).  I don't have the exact quote, but an interviewer asked 
her whether Snape was in love with Lily and her final answer was "I 
can't tell you."
