Geoff:
The same thought crossed my mind last night, that someone had placed 
it in the north western corner of Surrey, near Heathrow and north of 
the river - this is the section of Surrey which was Middlesex until 
1965.
I dug around in my own personal archive of posts and found a 
reference I made months ago - the place to look is in the Lexicon. 
There is a well-researched article there discussing the location of 
Little Whinging.
