Susan (#2), I agree with you about the first part (not remembering 
his mother's death).  Or perhaps he was lying in a crib and not able 
to see what was happening.

However, he was able to see the thestrals BEFORE Sirius died, since 
the beginning of OoP.  So his ability to see them must have been 
related to the death of Cedric Diggory.  But this is where I get 
confused since he didn't actually SEE Cedric murdered. He just 
heard it and assumed that it was him (which turned out to be 
correct).
