It seems to me that "they" are getting far more out of the books
than those who are reading them on a surface level only and taking
everything at face value.
Harry/Gryff = Good
Draco/Slyth = Bad
The trouble is, you see, that the author of these books sets that
idea on it's head in the first installment with Dumbledore's little
speech about "choices".
The trouble is, you see, that the author of these books continues to
turn this concept on its head throughout the series. Who's the bad
guy in PoA? Sirius Black. Until the last few chapters, that is.
If you choose to read only the surface story of the books, and you
enjoy that, then more power to you. But your utter disregard for and
unwillingness to try to understand anyone who chooses to dig deeper
is more telling of you than of anyone else.
Looking for 'more' in a story or trying to suss out a character's
motives is a *far cry* from "cheering for the bad guys". Was anyone
turning page after page in PoA HOPING Sirius would find and kill
Harry, just like we were all 'told' he was planning to do?
I think not.
