I think Gran will purchase Neville a new wand rather than punish him

I think you have a point here.  I just finished re-reading that book 
and was actually think of the same thing.  Neville has always had 
trouble with his spells, and then it finally dawned on me why he did 
so bad when he said that the wand was his fathers.  The wand must 
choose the wizard, not hte other way around.  When Neville gets his 
new wand, because that is a must, he cant get on in school without 
it...I think he will most definately come into his own.  As well as 
getting more confidence...
