I think HArry should show Snape respect simply because he will become
a better person for doing so. Harry can't control Snape, but he can
control his own behavior, and he needs to learn to do so. I think
Snape's quote about learning to controlling his emotions (although
somewhat hypocritical, IMHO) is a key for Harry to grow up. Instead
of the scenario with a policeman, let's think what would happen if the
next time another driver cut me off I rammed the back of his car with
my minivan. Not good for me, my car, or my insurance rate. Harry needs
to show Snape respect simply to avoid endangering himself any further.
But I doubt he'll do it.
