Snape -- DE or not DE? (Re: Some questions/comments about GoF)

One point that has always worried me is how Snape maintains his DE 
standing with Voldemort after the conversations he has had with 
Quirrel. Surely his defending the Philosopher's Stone and all that 
you don't want me as an enemy and and decide which side your are on 
stuff would have given him away given that Voldy was supposed to be 
on the back of Quirrel's head at the time.
