Actually, I think that the Pensieve wouldn't be reliable enough. It seems to
me of the family of magic to which Occlumency and Legilimency also belong.
Now we know that Voldemort was able to "fabricate" a memory and let somebody
else access it (or force it on somebody else) through a kind of
Legilimency/Occlumency over distance bond. So, I suspect, that it's actually
possible to feed fake and fabricated memories into the Pensieve as well.
By the way, to me that also means that it's possible the memories Harry saw
in Snape and in his pensieve weren't a hundred percent true either.
