Kindness?  From Kreacher's perspective,  yes.  But I
don't think that quite justifies it from an ethical
standpoint.  

I'm really not sure what could have been done to make
K's existence happier.  Maybe if Sirius had just set
him free before he learned what the Order was up to? 
I think he would have been overjoyed not to have to
wait on Sirius.  Or,  failing that,  maybe Sirius
could have administered a cheering charm or two daily
to keep him in a good mood?
