There is a difference between knowing WHAT happened, and knowing how
or why it happened.
 
I think this is that case with Harry and the night Voldemort was
defeated, they have been able to piece together what happened that
night, but, given that a Death Curse has never been blocked before or
after, they still don't know the intricate details of how or why it
happened. 

Just a thought.
