These posts have raised other questions for me.  
1.  Given that Tom Riddle was raised in a muggle orphanage, from 
whom did he receive permission to attend Hogwarts School of 
*Witchcraft and Wizardry*?
2.  If this permission came from the orphanage, how was he treated 
when he was home in the summers?  
3.  If it did not come from the orphanage, from whom?  A member of 
his mother's family, perhaps?
4.  If this is the case, why did he stay in the orphanage?
5.  Could these be clues to his anger and misanthropy?
