This has been sort of debated before about Kneazles.
I think that Crookshanks is part Kneazle (FBAWTFT)
Mrs. Figg's cats may very well also be part Kneazle as well as Mrs. 
Norris.  It would make sense for a Squib to want an intelligent cat 
around.
