I have the July 2000 first edition hardback of GoF and in my book 
James comes out of the wand before Lily.  In my early edition,  
James says "Your mother's coming..." [he said quietly.] "She wants 
to see you...it will be all right...hold on...."  And then Lily 
comes out of the wand.  
It's obvious now that the first USA editions and first UK editions 
of the book have the wrong order as Lily should have come out of the 
wand before James.
