Is it possible that PP is in fact spying on the Order throughout 
the book?

I can't recall where I read it. But my understanding is that the 
American illustrator did not have any "inside" information and had 
not been allowed to read the book at all when she did the various 
illustrations.  So the rat would have to be taken with a grain of 
salt.

Me Again (Heather):
Actually (as per an article) the British illustrator was not allowed 
to read the book in advance but Ms. Grandpre' was given an the 
opportunity to read the book and design the art based on her idea 
of the novel.
