Exactly,

in Philosipher's Stone, Ron tells Harry that First Years never make 
the house team.  Also, just like Ginny, CHarlie could have started 
off in one position, chaser, and then went on to be seeker in his 
last year.

What I did catch is that Charlie was working with dragons in Romania 
during Philosopher's Stone, so JKR's math had to be off in her chat 
session, she said it might be.
