Making things more complicated are people like Voldemort who

Not to forget that Tom Riddle him self is a half blood. 
If Slytherin only wanted purebloods in his House it is a bit strange 
that Riddle was actually placed there. The Sorting Hat obviously does 
not think it necessary to be a pureblood to be let into Slytherin 
House. I wonder how good old Salazar would feel about that if he 
knew...
