I did make the connection with mundungus, but JKR's latest online 
chat made me change my version for two reasons: first, she says 
crookshanks is not really a cat (So i read in fantastic beasts that 
he is an Kneazle.) And a Kneazle is not an animagus. Secondly, it 
doen't sound like the genius of JKR to put the obvious connection 
that people make. She has a knack of coming up with a bizzare, not 
likely tale. Also, is mundungus is the relative animagus or the 
animagus himself, what had he been doing in the magical minagerie for 
so long when "no one wanted him"...just a thought,
