I heard this from someone, who heard this from someone. So, I don't
know if it is really valid, but it might mean something if it is...
Supposedly, when JKR was writing OotP, she came out crying, and her
husband asked her what was wrong and she said she "killed" one of the
main characters. Her husband said, 'Well, you don't have to kill
them if you don't want to.' And she said it had to happen this way.
Now, I don't know if the above is true or not, but it makes a really
interesting plot point if it is. If JKR was upset about it enough to
make her cry, he must have "really died." But, we, again, don't know
what exactly happened in his death. And, we don't know if he can
communicate with Harry ever again.
Now, the reason I question the authenticity, is because there is a
similar quote about Puccini when he was writing his last opera,
Turandot. He came out crying after he wrote the music where Liu
dies. So, who knows. It could just be an uncanny coincidence that
both JKR and Puccini had the same reaction to characters dying.
